Pam’s Story

Pam - Our beautiful friend, mother, wife, sister, grandma, our bright radiant light, and our HERO.

Pam and Dan have been traveling around Mexico, village to village to spread the love of Jesus (you know, what they do best). They were driving from Batopilas, a village at the bottom of a canyon that is part of the Copper Canyon to a remote village a few hours from there. The road ends at Batopilas so they were taking dirt roads up through the mountain when devastatingly, their truck went over the canyon and rolled "at least 40 feet down". Pam was ejected from the truck and somehow, at the bottom of the cliff, the truck ended up on top of her. Miracle #1 is that she did not just instantly die from this. Also miraculously, Dan not only stayed in the vehicle, but was entirely untouched with not even a scratch or a bruise. This is a miracle for two reasons: 1) Dan has an artificial heart valve so he takes a very high does of blood thinners each day, making him at great risk of internal bleeding from any type of bruising or head trauma and then  2) because he remained conscious and unharmed, he could help save Pam. That was miracle #2 . Miracle #3 is that despite the truck being completely dismantled and all of their belongings were scattered down the mountain, right next to Dan was a car jack. Dan was quickly able to jack the car up and get the pressure of the truck off Pam. By this time, everyone in the village came running out to assist and they helped jack the car up even further to get her completely out. Pam's thigh was partially severed and the wound was completely open and exposed all the way down to the bone.

These people helped Dan get Pam to a location where she could be life flighted to a hospital. To do this, several people held a tarp up in the back of a truck to create a hammock for Pam while they drove through the dirt roads for an hour and a half. Miracle #4 is that Pam never lost consciousness through this, despite the trauma and pain and that she was losing so much blood. Miracle #5 is that these people from this tiny remote village knew not to move Pam's body or give her any water, even though she asked for this continuously along the long ride through the mountains.

Dan was given the decision to take Pam to several different hospitals, some closer than others. Not knowing how much time she had or if he should choose speed over quality, he decided to get her to the #1 hospital in the state and trust God that she would make it there. What he didn't know at that time but later learned is that they actually have THREE completely separate connections via friends and family to people very high up (Directors) in this hospital. This makes for miracle #6 as they are absolutely treating Pam like royalty here.

So Pam was life flighted to this hospital where they took her into emergency surgery. At this time, they realized Miracle #7.. Although her hip and thigh was completely open and exposed, her femoral artery was right there in plain sight, untouched and intact. Had this artery been punctured, Pam would have bled to death quickly.

Despite the many amazing things that had gone on that kept her alive, Pam's first night in the hospital was extremely scary and uncertain, and Dan was told by the doctor that she had a 30% chance of survival. The doctor also told my him that Pam had lost 2.5 liters of blood (which is about half her blood in her entire body), so she needed blood transfusions and hospital needed donors quickly. A lady in the waiting room overheard the doctor tell my dad this and interrupted to tell them that she was a part of a blood donor program. She jumped on the phone right then to announce it and by the next morning there was a line of strangers at the hospital to donate their blood (Miracle #8)

The family had been rallying the troops asking all friends and family and even strangers for prayer ... and man has everyone shown up. From hundreds of social media posts and shares, comments, calls and messages showing they are praying alongside us, to friend's starting GofundMe and Venmo accounts for Pam, to many friends working to orchestrate private planes for the family to get down to Chihuahua to be with her, to getting her approved to be admitted into a hospital in Memorial Herman once she was stable enough...the ways everyone has rallied and come through showing their support and most importantly, praying for our sweet Pam has literally been life-saving.

I am going to stop here but continue sharing her story and progress via posts on here so that we can keep a timeline of everything and everyone can check back here for the most recent update.

PLEASE DO NOT STOP PRAYING. PRAY WITH CONFIDENCE. GOD IS HEALING OUR SWEET PAM.
