Eleven weeks ago I went into the hospital for an aortic valve replacement and expected a one week in the hospital and additional five weeks of recovery at home. As you probably know by now it didn't work out that way.
However, yesterday, I met with my surgeon and received very good news. He wants to see me in a year. Although, I will still have a few restrictions for the next six months, I can resume many activities including driving and sleeping on my back instead of on my side. I will begin cardiac rehab in January but fully expect to biking, walking and chasing grandkids by late this spring.
I can't thank all of you enough for your prayers and kind words. They carried me through the last eleven weeks. I also want to thank Dr. Bailey and his entire team. With four separate hospital visits to AGH we were able to get to know most of the team as well as the emergency room staff, the PAs, Fellows, Nurses and Nurses aids. From the beginning we appreciated their expertise, their bedside manner, their willingness to answer questions, to explain to us what was taking place and what they were going to do.
It would have been even more difficult if Joan wasn't a daily companion and if our children didn't make time for me even from far away. Their visits were wonderful and to hear their voices always lifted my spirit. Finally, our faith in Jesus Christ is central to the way we live our lives. Knowing that He was present through everything, minimized anxiety and increased our confidence with each surgery.
