Paige’s Story

Site created on February 14, 2023

On February 11, 2023, Paige was in a devastating car accident with 4 of her friends. She was critically injured and was air lifted to Regions hospital directly from the scene of the accident. she immediately was sent to the OR with both trauma and orthopedic surgery teams and is now recovering in the PICU at Gillette Childrens Hospital. Due to hospital policies and respect for other patients in the PICU, we have not had visitors since Sunday. The amount of people reaching out concerned and asking about Paige's updates is mind-blowing. This 16-year-old manages to touch the lives of everyone she meets and is truly loved by so many people from all areas of her life. I am hoping this site will give everyone a place to check in for medical updates, current progress, photos, and words of encouragement.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Nikki Reder

Paige woke up Saturday morning with bad abdominal pain. She tried resting, ibuprofen, and heat packs. It got worse so we went to the ER, They did a CT scan and drew labs and started an IV for fluids and pain medication. She had a partial bowel obstruction. The doctor called Gillette to see if they would take her as a direct admit and Gillette would not admit her, so we went to Children’s in Minneapolis. She could not stay at Westfields because they do not have a pediatric surgeon. We were praying that she wouldn’t  need another surgery. She was on IV pain meds to keep her comfortable and pretty much slept the whole time. She wasn’t allowed anything to eat or drink and eventually it resolved with rest and no surgery was needed. Me and Piper spent Easter there with her and we snuck away and found a food truck so that we weren’t eating in front of her, so Easter dinner was street tacos this year. Monday she was allowed a clear liquid diet and that went well. Today she tried eating regular foods and that also went well. I was able to pick her up this evening and take her back home. She is doing well, the pain is gone and her bowels are working fine. She wanted to use her walker and walk into the gas station on her own and did awesome! She is more determined than ever to get going with outpatient therapy and get back to normal. Her outlook continues to amaze me and I am so proud of the positivity she spreads everywhere she goes. She has been talking to me a lot about Masen and she is figuring out how to cope with the mental side of this accident. We have a long road ahead and are taking it day by day. Thank you for all the prayers and support. ❤️
