Journal

Things are going really well!  Owen turned 18 on August 12.  He will start his senior year of high school on September 5.  Fiona will a sophomore.

We saw Owen’s surgeon last week. She gave us clearance to start Rehab!  No more crazy restrictions!!!  The wound is completely healed. He looks and feels good.

I’m working on getting time scheduled for physical therapy and occupational therapy. I’m hoping to get some in-home care. We really need him to focus on tasks for daily living.  He is considerably taller. He’s also been laying down for the last 11 weeks. What little strength he has needs a lot of work.  His balance has also been affected.

We need to work on rolling and transfers.  It’s not an easy task.  Owen is very reluctant to try things in his new nobody.  We would like to see him as independent as he was before the surgery. We know it will take time, but will be to his benefit in the future!

Owen is driving and back to work!!!  Everything is abbreviated.  Shorter shifts and local driving only.  He said it’s a little easier to drive because he sits higher in his chair.  He’s happy to be back in the movie theater and the staff has been very accommodating to his needs!!

Fiona has finished with her Fair circuit.   She loved traveling the state doing concessions for various festivals. Now she is just focusing on work at Sonic and golf.

And then back to school!!!  Owen will be as ready as he can be.  We haven’t talked about the extra care he will need, but his team has always been very accommodating.  They usually touch base before school starts.

We are on the homestretch. His surgeon said he will not be truly recovered for nine months.  The surgery he had is permanent. His spine will stay the way it is now forever. That is a blessing!!  There are always things that could go wrong, one day at a time…….

I’ll continue to do updates, but will be less frequent.
Thanks for all your love and support!
XOXOXO
