Owen’s Story

Site created on July 24, 2023

Last Saturday 7/22/23 Owen fainted and fell down the stairs at home. While getting him checked out at the ER the doctors discovered he had not only a concussion but also a congenital defect called a Chiari Malformation at the base of his skull that is restricting the movement of his spinal cord. one side effect of this condition can be syrinx (a small fluid filled cyst inside the spinal cord) it was discovered that Owen has this condition as well. Currently we are in Helen DeVos Children's Hospital doing tests and waiting for decompression surgery and several other tests to determine what life will look like in the weeks to come.
