Addelynn ’s Story

Site created on April 23, 2020

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We struggle with reading texts, comments, etc. because we are both just so scared and emotional. Please refrain from texting us at this time, as we are walking through this together and don’t know answers. We write this for family and friends who have texted and asked how we are doing and how baby girl is and have not gotten a response. This is kinda a lot to explain. But we are thankful for your prayers, and love. That’s all we can ask for right now.

Journal entry by Nate and Angela Higgins

Monday Addelynn had her first feeding therapy appointment. They were very impressed with how comfortable she was while she was taking her bottle. They didn’t send us home with anything new or different to do, except to increase the amount in her bottle to 60 mL, which is 2 ounces, she did great with that every time!
Friday Addelynn had a cardiologist appointment. Every single staff at this Sibley office (and I’m sure all others) is just phenomenal- from the check in staff, to the nurse who takes us back helping me carry all my stuff, to Dr. V - they are just all naturals at taking care of us! Anyways, her little heart sounded perfect. We didn’t have to do and EKG or ECHO today. Dr. V used the word “magnificent” when describing Addy’s heart, how she looks and sounds, and how she did while drinking her bottle!! He wants to get rid of this feeding tube! He did some math and told me to leave the tube in but if she pulls it out just to leave it out unless she needs it. He wants us to just give her the full 125 mL from the bottle
EVERY TIME! He thinks she is ready and said if she shows any signs of discomfort (heavy breathing, gagging, or kicking) then to use the feeding tube like normal, but if not just to move to the bottle. He said “it’s just a shame” for her to be using the tube when it just doesn’t seem like she needs it. So as I am writing this post, she has had 4 bottles and NO FEEDING TUBE - and she has done perfect!!!! She is drinking all formula now. Unfortunately my body stopped producing milk, but I’m proud of what my body did for Addelynn even through the craziest almost 4 months of life ever.
This momma has officially gone back to work and the girls and super daddy have had lots of time together. I have been teaching digitally - it has definitely had its ups and downs. We found out that students will be coming beck to school August 26th if their parents choose that option. I’m pretty nervous, but just going to have to live in faith and do my part to keep germs out of our house the best that I can.
Oh and you can see in the pictures that she has gone up to 67%ile in weight, and 8%ile in height! I’m sure she gets that height from momma! Sorry girly! Lol 😆

We are so thankful for the amazing growth Addelynn has shown. It’s amazing how far she has come and we are so grateful for her personality, smiles, and her little life.

Weeeelllll we got a call at 3:00 from Dr. V-
1. Calling to let us know that the results from the genetics test came back and were all normal! There are no concerns! And he was excited to get to be the one to share that news with us!
2. To ask how the feeds have been going since we left yesterday. I told him we had given her 6 bottles of 125 mL and she took every one perfectly with no issues. He said "well then I say you can go ahead and pull that tube and throw it away!" Ahhhh!!! So we will be taking it all off after bath when it's wet so it doesn't hurt her little cheek!
So excited!
