Olivia’s Story

The beginning of time.....

I will be frequently updating our journal entries to keep everyone in the loop. Please forgive us that our plate is quite full right now and might not be able to update as frequently as we would like. We will do it as much as we can, with the time that we do have and as test results come back.

12/22/2016 - It all started four weeks ago with a small tummy ache and some hip pain. Olivia was brought to the doctor a number of times with a given diagnosis of a pulled muscle, viral infection and constipation. She had been having difficulty with her temperature over the last couple weeks. This all escalated quickly when Olivia's temperature rose to 102.6 degrees. Her primary doctor recommended that she go to St. Paul Children's Hospital Emergency Room to be evaluated because her fever had gone on so long. After a number of tests and unanswered questions, the oncologist came in and told us that she has a mass in her abdomen and in her right hip/groin area. They then decided that she should be transferred to Minneapolis Children's Hospital because they have amazing oncologist's there that specialize in what they saw in her. Olivia needed to get a CT scan because the doctors wanted to be able to see a better image of what was showing up in her abdomen and hip/groin area. After a number of restless hours the doctors came back and said "Jon and Kari, we have confirmed our initial assumptions. It is a cancerous mass. We have Olivia set up at 9am to biopsy the mass to get confirmation of what type of cancer that she has." Olivia was then diagnosed with High Risk Neuroblastoma.

4/20/2019 - Olivia's cancer had returned for a second time which meant more chemo at Minneapolis Children's Hospital and radiation down at the Mayo in Rochester.

10/03/2019 - After 6 months of Olivia going through treatments her scans were ALL CLEAR!

10/21/2022 - We were hoping to hear the ALL CLEAR which would of put Olivia in remission for 3 years from Neuroblastoma, but we didn't.....

Journal entry by Kari Schwerr

Yesterday was ONE of the absolutely hardest funerals I’ve ever been to in my entire life!!! 😭

We’re so happy we were able to make the drive up there to celebrate this STRONG and AMAZING little boy! 🙏🏻

We met this amazing family when we were down at the Mayo in Rochester over the summer while Olivia was getting radiation treatments on her spine. Isaac and Olivia instantly became the best of friends!

Unfortunately, Isaac didn’t win his battle. As I tell Olivia, she has a very special guardian angel watching over her all the time. 🙏🏻

Our SWEET peanut Olivia just couldn’t understand it all?! 😭 She was so confused and trying to wrap her head around why him and not her?! 😭😭😭

Fly High Sweet Boy; we LOVE you so so so BIG!!! ❤️❤️❤️
