Update on Oliver!
After surgery was done (March 25) the doctors planned to keep him intubated and heavily sedated.
Oliver had other plans! 🤣
No matter how many drugs they gave him, Oliver was able to “break through” and continue to consciously move his head, arms and legs. After many many attempts (and even wrist restraints!) they gave up and extubated him. Not only was Oliver able to breathe on his own, he started talking right away. 💜
Oliver is not allowed to eat or drink anything. We can give him a sponge to suck a small amount of water off of.
An NG tube has been placed to relieve compression from the stomach. This way instead of throwing up bile we can suction it out- avoiding putting extra stress on his abdomen.
March 26
Oliver didn’t sleep until the afternoon of March 26. Even then, his sleep comes in small, frequent naps.
He is less irritable but not interested in playing with toys, his tablet or watching movies. He does like to have the Trolls movie on for background noise.
His urinary catheter was removed as well as extra IVs.
Unfortunately he did develop a fever of 101.3- deemed post-op fever. It was brought down with Tylenol.
March 27
Oliver’s liver enzymes came back elevated. This is expected given that the liver was moved around quite a bit during his operation. Tylenol can no longer be given.
He is expected to be in the ICU for 12-36 more hours.
Around noon Oliver was moved to a different room- effectively switching him from Intensive Care to Intermediate Care.
