You can make a difference by becoming an organ donor and joining the Legacy Organ and Tissue Donor Registry. It is important to remember that indicating your wishes on your driver’s license is not enough. Please add your name to the registry, and discuss your decision with your family. Registering is simple and only takes a few minutes. You may also call 1-866-SHARELIFE (1-866-742-7354) and request registration forms.

There is a critical shortage of donated organs and tissue.  More men, women, and children are waiting for organ transplants in the United States than ever before. Over 100,000 kidney patients in the U.S. are waiting for a transplant, and in Alabama, there are more than 3,200 waiting.

To help meet this great need, the Alabama Organ Center launched the Donor Registry, a database that documents the wishes of people like you who want to donate their organs and tissues upon death. Other states have implemented similar registries resulting in significant increases in organ donation.
