Noel’s Story

Site created on December 7, 2021

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support, prayers, and words of hope and encouragement. I will start with a little background information on Noel's situation. Noel had a brain tumor removed back in December of 2018. He was diagnosed with glioblastoma and has had frequent follow up visits and MRI's since then. Everything has been going really well until just recently. On Thanksgiving morning Noel started to experience severe migraines. Unfortunately, we were in Nebraska and we went to the ER twice with very little answers. After we got back to Rochester, MN we were able to meet with his neurology team and after an MRI they diagnosed him with SMART syndrome which stands for stroke-like migraine attacks after radiation therapy. There is little known information about this so they aren't totally sure what all this entails but he has been having frequent bouts of focal seizures lasting up to a couple hours. He was admitted to the neurology unit at Mayo Clinic on Sunday and has had a seizure twice since being there.  We predict that he will be there for a little bit longer until we can get this under control.  Noel was in the RN program and will have to take a break from school to heal and even when he is able to go home he will need constant supervision until he is stable. We are asking for prayers and support. We will keep you updated on here day by day. We have faith that this will be just another bump in the road and he will be back to himself in due time. Thank you! ❤

Newest Update

Journal entry by Brittany Goodrich

Hi friends and family! I just wanted to update you because today Noel had an MRI and a follow-up neurology appointment. His MRI scans were super reassuring! His scans showed that he is healing from the seizures and there is hope that there will not be permanent brain damage. Noel will still be on seizure medications for about 4-6 weeks and that's also when his next MRI and follow-up will be. We are hoping that he will continue to heal and get better in the meantime and only time will tell. He is still having a hard time navigating his phone and things are still backwards as his vision has been affected but we were told that the part of his brain where the seizures took place affected this area and those are normal deficits. We are taking it one day at a time but today's visit made us very hopeful that things will start to trend in the right direction! I want to thank all our friends and family again for all the love and support you have given us! God is good and we are already this far into his recovery because of your prayers! We thank you and want you to continue to think of us! I will continue to keep you updated on here. 🙏
