Journal

One year ago today Noah was admitted to the hospital. It seems like forever ago. I tear up just thinking about it all--everything he went through and where he's at now.

Really, there are so many good things to report. Noah had his central line removed in July and was able to participate in soccer contact days. We went on our annual cabin trip with Matt's family in August and he was able to go swimming. He started regular soccer practice and senior year of high school in the middle of August.

Most of his labs look good. His liver numbers are a little higher that the doctors like, so we have to go to clinic to have an exam and get labs every two weeks. Hopefully we will be able to space out the visits as his numbers improve.

He's still had some struggles. During his first soccer game he went down hard, hit his head on the ground, and suffered a mild concussion. He followed the concussion protocol and was able to play again about 2 weeks later. We camped at Camp Phillip for labor day weekend where Noah and Gabe participated in the 5K run. It was a bout 100 degrees out that day and Noah only was able to finish half of the run. He's frustrated that his body can't do what he wants it to, but he's ok. In September we had a cold go through the house, and Noah got it too. Between the antiviral medicine that he's on and his slowly improving immune system, he was able to fight off the virus. It was scary, but good to see that he made it through with no serious effects.

One year... he's physically weaker than before this all started, but he is a stronger, more patient, more empathetic person because of it. And we thank God that he is here with us, doing normal things and living his life.
