Nikki’s Story

Site created on July 21, 2023

Welcome to Nikki Wilson’s CaringBridge site. Nikki was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer on July 14. This site will keep her family and friends informed of her medical updates. It will also be a way to relay information about any help she may need with meals or tasks. Nikki is a self-employed owner of two businesses which she had to shut down immediately in order to focus completely on her health. Please consider clicking the link to her GoFundMe page to help with her medical and living expenses. Nikki is so grateful to everyone who has expressed their concern. She has a long medical journey ahead. Your prayers, support, encouragement and words of hope will mean so much to her during this difficult time.

Journal entry by Olivia Fortson

On Sunday, Oct. 8 Nikki's family and friends will gather from 2 to 4 p.m. at Queens University of Charlotte to honor Nikki's memory and celebrate her life. For those able to join us, here are parking details and other helpful info:

Because Nikki loved being outside, the service will be held underneath a beautiful old oak tree on the front lawn of the university. (A map is attached showing the ceremony site and the parking.  The site is marked with a gold star.) The site is in front of Jernigan Hall (No. 5 on map) and next to Rogers Hall (No. 2 on map). Rogers Hall is topped with a greenhouse, which Nikki would have loved! And although it's not installed yet, there's a Living Wall of plants being grown on the side of Rogers Hall, which Nikki would have also loved. There will be chairs to sit in. For those with mobility issues, they can be dropped off in the main horseshoe driveway (C on the map) and the ceremony site is just a few steps away. Official parking is at the lot behind the Harris Admissions Center, 1830 Queens Road (on the map, the building is No. 1 and the lot is A). You simply walk across Radcliffe road, go in front of Belk Chapel (No. 3 on the map) and then you'll see the site. As you can see from the map, the parking lot is very near the ceremony site. Because it's a Sunday, parking should be easy.

Nikki's dear longtime friend and classmate Cathy Poral, a nurse and ordained minister, is coming from Santa Fe, New Mexico to lead the service. Cathy has always been a gifted, special and spiritual person so we are very grateful that she'll be guiding us.

A table will be set up with photos. Please feel free to bring a favorite photo to display. For those who wish to do so, there will also be a time to share your favorite Nikki memory or story.

There will be a table of refreshments that Nikki would have loved: tea sandwiches and of course cupcakes! There will also be water and lemonade.

According to the current weather report, it's going to be a perfect crisp, sunny fall day. We appreciate everyone who is able to be there and we look forward to seeing you then. If you have additional questions, please post them below.
