Niki’s Story

Site created on January 23, 2023

As many know, Niki was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2013 when she was 35 years old. Several surgeries and an aggressive treatment plan later, we thought we were in the clear given how much time had passed and her annual check-ins with her oncologist never gave cause for concern. 12 or so weeks into her pregnancy with her second daughter, Niki started experiencing back pain and shortness of breath that even her doctors chalked up as being pregnancy-related so she soldiered on. When she finally went to the ER at 34 weeks, a scan of her chest cavity revealed that the breast cancer we thought was long gone had metastasized and was visible in areas around her rib, spine, and liver. No further investigation could be done with a growing baby inside of her so Niki made the difficult decision to deliver just 2 days after going into the hospital so that she could begin treatment immediately. This is where I'll keep you updated on Niki and her beautiful girls as she takes on this next chapter. Please keep her, Phoebe, Ellis, and our family in your thoughts and prayers and thank you for all of the love and support. Niki feels it all, and so do we.

Journal entry by Niki Clark

It's been almost a year since Niki's diagnosis. Bayhealth (where Niki was initially sent following her trip to the ER in Millville, DE) put together a beautiful video of her story. Her latest blog post is below, and you can also watch the video at the link below. Thank you for all your support and love - it has carried us all through the last 12 months, and gives us hope and fills us with peace for the months ahead.
