Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

11/1/21 I was diagnosed with Stage 1 Multiple Myeloma.  I was totally in shock and had never heard of Multiple Myeloma.  After research I found out I had the "Old Man's Disease"....now of course you can see I am NOT an old man.  It is definitely rare for someone as young as myself to be diagnosed with this disease, and especially to identify the diagnosis so early.  The good news is I have no bone or kidney damage, praise God!  I completed 12 weeks of chemo on 4/15/22. However, the next phase of treatment requires a stem cell transplant which is scheduled for 5/19/22.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Nicole Brown

Hi,

It has been a while since my last update.  Last month I had a bone marrow biopsy and several labs performed to see the status of the myeloma cells.  I am excited to share the results. My bone marrow biopsy did not detect any abnormal cells! When I started this journey my bone marrow biopsy showed 70% abnormal cells. The paraprotein is now undetectable. I also had a lab test performed called Minimum Residual Disease (MRD).  This test analyzes 1 million cells to determine if there are any abnormal cells remaining. In September 2022 I had 44,000 abnormal cells, the most recent test shows 158 cells. The treatment is definitely working.

As I have mentioned, this diagnosis requires maintenance chemo which would typically just be a pill.  However, I will have to continue the infusions and the pill for 2 years.  After 2 years the goal is to drop down to just the pill.  So, I will have my port a little longer than I initially anticipated.

The stem cell transplant I had last summer wiped out my immune system, so for the next year I will be receiving ALL my childhood vaccinations again.  This should be very interesting…😊

I thank God to be able to share this wonderful update with everyone.  I am so thankful for all your prayers and support. As I close out this post, I just want everyone to know that there is nothing too big for our God.  You just need to have faith.
