Nick (Gary)’s Story

Site created on September 25, 2020

Please note Nick's brother in law has so kindly set up a Go Fund Me to help with some of the out of pocket medical costs as we have had several people reach out wanting to offer financial support. If you go to the "Ways To Help" section of this website and click on the GoFundMe link, you can donate there. The "tribute" option here on the site supports the Caring Bridge website (which is a great FREE resource for us so donating to them is appreciated!) but that does not come to us directly. (At this time we are not requesting any donations through Caring Bridge. We have much better insurance now and while we are still playing catch-up from that first surgery, as of now our current expenses are manageable with our insurance).

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place.  As most of you know, Nick received a diagnosis of colon cancer in early September after a malignant tumor was found during a colonoscopy.  He had a partial colon resection surgery on September 16, 2020.  During that surgery, they discovered that the cancer had metastasized to his liver.   Further scans have shown 4 visible lesions on his liver (spread across both lobes of the liver).  They also found cancer present in the lymph nodes surrounding the colon tumor.  As a result, our next step is to meet with an oncologist and begin the chemotherapy process.  That is where this site's journal entries start.

Thank you for following along and supporting us on this journey.

Journal entry by Jennifer Landry

You read that right! Nick went in for his scans today and once again got the wonderful words..."no evidence of disease!”

He has been feeling really good so we were hopeful that it would be good news, but getting the confirmation is just so outstanding.

He meets with his oncologist next week so they will discuss next steps including how long between scans this time. It was 3 months this last time. So at a minimum I would guess the same. It is possible he will push it out for 6 months.

For those keeping track, Nick's last liver resection surgery was May 16th - so he is coming up on one year with no recurrence. Keep those good vibes coming that this trend continues!!

Thanks as always for everyone's love and support.

xoxo, Jen
