We tried skilled nursing center but it just didn't work out for us.  Nothing against the facility, Nick is quick and he is strong and when he is ready to get out of bed, the only one that can prevent him from getting up must be right next to him.  So we are home.  Home sweet home.  Nick is doing well at home.  Cassie is able to assist us with his care at home.  He requires 'line of sight' - which means he can't get out of your sight at all.  His fractured elbow complicates the use of a walker so we use a gait belt to assist in positioning him to a chair, bed or toilet. Mr. Independence has stood up on his own, someway gotten to the toilet *(for example) yet thankfully he has not fallen!

Morris or Jessica must sleep next to Nick because he WILL get out of bed and try to walk.  He is rocking and rolling around in his wheelchair, placing and scattering his favorite belongings around the house.  Jessica has rearranged the furniture so Nick cannot possibly get out of sight.

Home healthcare is a process.  So we are still waiting on the assessment, evaluation and all of the paperwork to be completed.  Nick is to have his blood taken today or tomorrow. He returns to the surgeon on Thursday for a follow-up.  I have to admit I'm a little nervous about his newly swollen (good) ankle.  He may have done this when I found him on the toilet* the other day.

Jessica has taken PTO during this time but returns to work tomorrow.  We thank you for your prayers, thoughts, sentiments and Facebook statements.  We feel loved and prayed up!

PS I encourage you to visit your local skilled nursing center and be blessed.  These precious individuals are for the most part neglected and very lonely.  I heard a wise person say once, if you're lonely, go visit the lonely.  That's good medicine!
