Journal

Hi, everyone.  I wanted to provide a long, overdue update on my cancer journey. Early Friday morning, July 14, I had my one-year-after-surgery colonoscopy.  The report was good!  No polyps, healthy prostate, & the rest of my colon was normal for someone my age. Next colonoscopy is 3 yrs. out.  Thank you all for your genuine concern and all your prayers over the past 22 months.  It's been a roller-coaster ride of emotions, tears, & joys.  Based on my experience, my advice to anyone reading this is to:  1) Go get checked out or screened if anything feels "off." (whether it's your colon or anything else) Go get your 1st colonoscopy at age 45 if you have no colon cancer family history, earlier if you have a family history.  2) One's mind & emotions can play tricks on you when you have all that extra time sitting in the La-Z-Boy feeling awful, when going through chemotherapy.  Find your foundation, your rock, your steadiness when your life is being turned upside down.  Independent & secular studies have shown that those with a belief system outside of themselves have more effective resiliency or better "bounce-back" during & after serious hardships & trials.  3) Be there for your loved ones going through this.  One's support network is vital when going through the their worst days.
Thanks, again, for all our prayers, concerns, texts, hugs, & words of encouragement!
