Journal entry by Nathan Shatto —
Posted on Sunday but now there's an update at the bottom!
Great News!
Hello, #teamNathansArmy! I have some amazing news to share. Thanks to your prayers, good wishes, and support, we have hit the next major milestone in our journey. The procedure checking on my heart was successful--there are no issues--and I have been placed on the transplant list! We'll learn more over the next week but this is the first step toward the next part of our journey. Based on current lab results, we expect it to move quite quickly.
Once a viable liver becomes available, I will have 4-6 hours to get to Saint Louis for a marathon 6-8 hour transplant surgery. I will then be in the hospital for 3-4 weeks followed by a stay in housing there to ensure it's a match and functioning well. Then back home for several months of recovery. But woo-hoo! We're almost there and it's time for me to get a to-go bag ready because this could happen anytime. I want to express my gratitude to all of you who have provided me with emotional and financial support thus far. I humbly request that you keep me in your thoughts and prayers. I am fully aware of how fortunate I am and how blessed I am to have each of you in my corner. We could not have made it this far without your unwavering support. I will share more as I learn, but thank you, thank you, thank you. Have a great Sunday,
With love and light, Nathan
UPDATE: As of yesterday, November 13, I am number 3 on this list. This is happening. And fast! Thanks again for all your support. Who knows? The next message might be from my recovery bed in St. Louis.
