Nathan’s Story

Site created on November 6, 2022

Nate originally went into the doctor because he was having pain in his back. The doctors suspected it was his gallbladder. Nate was dreading having to pass a stone, until he found out the diagnosis was much more serious.

On Monday, November 7, Nate is scheduled to have his first testosterone blocker and find out what to expect for his chemotherapy treatments. On Friday, November 11, he will have surgery to have a port implanted in his chest and on Thursday, November 15 he will receive his first chemo treatment.

Nate has health insurance but could use help with the deductible and co-pays. We have set up a GoFundMe page for Nate here: https://gofund.me/00fd46b5 . Please post and share that link wherever you can.

Nate would greatly appreciate your prayers.

Journal entry by Darrell Smith

Nate is grateful that he is progressing well in his cancer treatments. He is done with chemo treatments, yay! On his last test, his PSA was less than 0.1, which puts it well into the normal range. He will continue with T-blocker and bone strengthening treatments.

He has been weaned off his pain medication, with his last dose about a week ago. This leaves him with low energy, lethargic and feeling foggy headed. He also has trouble sitting in one position. However, in general he is handling that fairly well.

Because of his medical restrictions (he cannot lift heavy weights) Nate could not get hired back to his old job. Unfortunately, that means his employer provided health insurance ends at the end of this month.

He took a night-shift security job, but sadly it pays 1/3rd less than his previous position and provides no health insurance. He is looking for a job that pays better and covers healthcare, but no luck so far. In the meantime he is looking at individual coverage, which is much more expensive. Add to that, he has already reached his deductible and max out-of-pocket this year for his old health plan, so new coverage will mean starting over on the deductible.

Because of this, Nate's immediate concern is financial. He says he can manage his current bills for about 6 more weeks, before he starts to get into a tight pinch. Nate is very grateful for everyone's generous support on his GoFundMe page (https://gofund.me/f3be4275). It seems obvious to me that he could use more help to keep financial troubles at bay. Please join me in considering a donation to help Nate.
