It’s been exactly a month since Nate posted that he finished treatment and what a great month it has been! Nate is back in the driver’s seat, both literally and figuratively. He walks around unassisted, and this past week he began PT so he can strengthen his left leg after so many months of non-weight bearing. He’s got eyelashes and eyebrows again, and his hair is growing back. He’s back behind the wheel learning to drive and resumes his required driving lessons in September.
Last week we spent a glorious 48 hours at my aunt’s house in Woods Hole. The day before our visit, Nate’s plastic surgeon said it would be safe for him (with skin graft on shin) to swim for 20 minutes at a time. So of course we made the most of the beautiful weather and proximity to a quiet little beach during our visit... Nate went in the ocean TEN times!
Next Thursday, Nate will have a day surgery to remove the port from his chest. This is the central line where they hooked up his chemo, and more recently we used it for his IV antibiotic infusions. Getting the port out is a great milestone for a cancer patient... now a cancer survivor, which sounds so much better because it absolutely is!
