Nancy’s Story

Site created on November 8, 2023

Hi friends and family, welcome to Nancy’s CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep everyone updated in one place. As many of you know, Nancy was recently diagnosed with a rare pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor called a gastrinoma. Due to its size and location, she will need a Whipple procedure to completely remove it. Based on all of her workup, her surgeon is very encouraged that it is a slow growing tumor which has not spread to any other areas of the body indicating a very good prognosis. However, this will be a major surgery and we appreciate your support, prayers, and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting!

Journal entry by Megan Cassin

I am headed back to Virginia today with Mike and our girls. This Thanksgiving we had much to be thankful for! It is hard to believe that less than 1 month after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, Mom is home cancer-free and was even able to join us at the table to enjoy a bit of Thanksgiving dinner.

I’m handing over updates to Mom now! I am forever grateful I was stateside and able to spend these weeks with her as she recovered. Katie and I haven’t had that much quality time together in many years (though the ICU and hospital room isn’t the loveliest place)! Thank you to everyone who has offered to keep mom company, bring meals, and drive her to more follow-up appointments. She is still experiencing pain and fatigue. Katie and I are thankful we can head back to our families knowing Mom and Dad are well loved and will continue to be well taken care of!
