Nancy’s Story

Site created on May 27, 2023

In a world where acts of kindness and selflessness often go unnoticed, there are extraordinary individuals whose lives radiate with warmth and compassion. Nancy Johnson is one such person, whose unwavering love and hospitality have touched countless hearts throughout her remarkable life. However, today we find Nancy in a hospital room, where her own spirit of nurturing and care is being reciprocated by the loving souls around her.

Nancy’s journey began decades ago, when she embraced the role of a devoted caregiver to her beloved son, Allen. Born with a disability that required constant attention, Allen relied on Nancy's care for over 50 years. Through her unwavering dedication, Nancy ensured that her son always felt loved, cherished, and included in every aspect of life.

Over the years she became affectionately known as “Ms. Nancy” to countless young people. There has always been an “open door” policy at the Johnson’s, the home itself and the refrigerator! If you needed a place to stay before or after school, a place to hang out on the weekend or just a good meal it was readily found.

In 1989, upon the death of her dear friend Diane, Nancy and Larry took in her 4 children to raise as their own. (Jason, Aaron, Damon & Amanda)
In 1997 her heart and home became even fuller when they began caring for their infant grandson Zachary, further proving that a safe place to land could always be found within her four walls.

Cooking is Nancy's secret superpower, her way of nourishing not only bodies but also souls. The kitchen was her sanctuary, where she unleashed her creativity and conjured up culinary delights that left everyone yearning for more. From the comforting aroma of freshly baked bread to the mouthwatering flavors of her homemade soups and stews, Nancy's cooking brought joy and contentment to all who tasted her creations.

But Nancy is not alone in this journey. Her devoted husband, Larry, sits by her side, holding her hand, and offering unwavering support. Family and friends gather, bringing homemade meals and kind words, creating a loving circle around Nancy that mirrors the love she has poured into their lives for so long. Even the hospital staff is moved by the outpouring of affection and gratitude that fills the room.
