Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.
Nancy tested positive for the virus at the end of April and showed no symptoms for 2 days.   While celebrating my dad's (Ted's) 80th birthday on the evening of May 1st, we received a call that she was throwing up, was dizzy, had a fever, had uncontrollable shaking and the chills.  She continued with these symptoms until Monday at which time her oxygen levels dipped below 90%.  She was admitted to the hospital on Monday afternoon, May 4 and was put on oxygen.  She developed pneumonia and was given IV and  oral antibiotics in hopes this would get rid of the pneumonia.  Fast forward to Wednesday, the doc thought she was improving, her temp was down and she was on a very low level of oxygen so he wanted to send her home.  My mom, Emily, refused to let that happen and the group home refused to let her come back simply because she was still on oxygen and her pneumonia was not improving.  Wednesday evening (May 6)  in the middle of the night she spiked a 102 temp.  She needed 3-4 liters of oxygen, she was not eating or drinking, she was still dizzy, and the pneumonia was continuing to worsen.  By Friday Nancy was on 4 liters of oxygen, both lungs had pneumonia, she was weak from not eating or drinking, but was holding her own.  She received the plasma treatment that is from former covid patients that is supposed to reduce the length and intensity of the virus.  This went well, she didn't reject it and we were told we may not see the results of this for 1-3 weeks.  Late Saturday night, early Sunday morning (May 10) my mom received a call that Nancy had taken a turn for the worse.  Nancy was very agitated and was struggling to breathe.  They had increased her oxygen level to 8 liters and she was still struggling.  Her pneumonia had worsened and they felt they needed to put her in ICU on a ventilator.

Journal entry by Tami Rudolph

According to the doctor, at this time Nancy is stable.  Her bp is still low, she is still being monitored for sepsis, and she is on some pretty heavy duty antibiotics for the pneumonia and the UTI.

Mom and I have been staying at the hospital with her.  Mom has been doing the day shift and I’ve been on nights.  In the last 24 hours we have noticed a significant difference in Nancy.  I hope we are wrong and we are just going through a big huge mountain in the road.

I hope we are wrong!  Just to be safe, please send all the good vibes our way.
