Welcome to Nancy’s CaringBridge Site
Sign In to Show Your SupportNancy met the Radiation Oncology Doctor this week to discuss and plan the course of her treatments. Some good news: she will require 20 treatments instead of the originally anticipated 30. She begins with a dry run/calibration appointment on Tuesday, May 28, and commences with daily treatments (Mon-Fri) on May 29.
From the day of her diagnosis, many people, medical professionals, cancer survivors, etc., expressed to Nancy that her cancer treatment would be a "journey." Having experienced it, this is abundantly true. However, in many ways, it is a journey without a destination. The goal is to be cancer-free, but that is not the endpoint. Cancer's devious nature requires continued diligence and screening. Nancy's oncologist mentioned she will be a patient for possibly 5-10 more years, and that is if there is no reoccurrence. Her regular mammograms will be at the Breast Surgeon's office for the indefinite future. This increased, and ongoing scrutiny is reassuring and has Nancy's best interest in mind. The thought of continuing on this "journey" for the foreseeable future is daunting, but that is why the love and support of family and friends are vital. The strength gained by everyone's encouragement and prayers will help her see it through.
