Nancy’s Story

Site created on January 28, 2022

After a fantastic Christmas and New Years with family and friends we got back from the cabin for a week of appointments, errands and normal stuff looking forward to sending Sarah off to finish her senior year. We had Christmas part 2 Friday, January 7 with the kids and my parents. I woke up Saturday the 8th not feeling well and by mid day had a 101 temp. Negative home test that night but symptoms got worse Sunday so I took another home test and sure enough Covid found my immunocompromised, vaxed and boosted self. Started to feel better for two days mid week and then it just went slowly down almost daily. Four visits to the Theda respiratory clinic was a valiant attempt to stay out of the hospital but to no avail. My lungs just needed more help than I could give them on my own even with the help of my amazing hubby.  On Tuesday, January 25 I was admitting to the Covid floor at St Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton. I am in the right place.

Grateful, thankful, and blessed. We see these words a lot this time of year. Today they have a little different meeting for me. I’m closing the book on my Covid 2022 journey. All of my oxygen supplies are officially leaving the house! I’m not anxious at all! Surprises me but I’m not. My emotions are all over the place, happy, sad, overwhelmed, and of course thankful! This experience has changed me. This experience has enhanced my relationships. This experience has taught me so much!

GRATEFUL! For each day, for the air we breathe, for the education of the physicians who treated me, For the compassionate nurses who cared for me, and for what this journey has done for me.

THANKFUL! For all who prayed for me and gave me strength to fight this battle, for those who fought before me from whom the doctors learned, for my husband who showed such amazing compassion in his care of me, and for my sister who gave so much to come and care for me!

BLESSED! For my parents who through their worry remain steadfast in their care and love, for my kids who have watched me fight different things but their love and compassion continues to be endless, for friends and family who did so much to lift me up, and for God who carried me through.

It may be dreary rainy and cold here in Appleton but today I feel the sun shining down on me for I am truly GRATEFUL, THANKFUL and BLESSED!
