Diagnosis
Mom was diagnosed with HER2+ metastatic breast cancer.  This type of breast cancer has no cure, but with successful treatments of shots and chemotherapy, her life can be prolonged.  This news crushed our family.  She was faithful with her mammograms each year, was not on any medications for anything, and breast cancer is nowhere in her family’s history.  Mom’s faith in our Heavenly Father has never been stronger and is helping us all understand the journey that he now has her and our family on now.

Timeline
Early August was when Mom was diagnosed with breast cancer and after a month of very harsh diagnostic tests, it was determined that all the tumors were HER2+ which would direct the treatment plan.

Treatment
Mom will receive weekly treatments of chemotherapy directed at her particular breast cancer for 12 weeks.  Every three weeks Mom will receive the HER2+ shot which is a shot that is given in the leg for many, many minutes.  This HER2+ shot will be the shot she receives when the 12 weeks of chemotherapy are completed. Dr. Higgins is her breast oncologist who recently came from Mayo in Rochester.  Mom reminds us how truly blessed we are to have such a wonderful medical team working at prolonging her life.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Jordan Decker

Hi to all!  I had a great day of tests and scans in Sioux Falls today--echo...brain MRI...CT scan...bone scan...labs...and doctor meeting with Dr. Higgins (my angel on earth)!

My metastatic breast cancer is contained within my breast for now...THERE IS NO EVIDENCE OF SPREADING TO ANYWHERE other than my breast area.

The Phesgo injections every three weeks are working to contain the cancer to the breast area!  I will continue to get all of the scans every three months and the Phesgo shots every three weeks.  Right now I am living with metastatic breast cancer and beating those odds!

GOD IS SO VERY GOOD!  I'm here, and I will get to spend the holidays with my family which is the best news EVER!

Here is a song that was playing on the radio after my doctor's appointment.  I pray for all of you everyday! From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your continued prayers. Jesus be my all, always, and in all ways!

Much love, Nancy
