Eleanor’s Story

Site created on September 7, 2022

Eleanor’s warrior journey began around 8/14/22 when we first started noticing something was not in balance. On 9/4/22 Eleanor was diagnosed with a kidney tumor (eventually finding out it was Wilms tumor metástasis to lungs, spine, and lymph, stage IV). Since this date she has anesthesia more than 14 times, 4 surgeries/procedures, radiation, chemotherapy, a collapsed lung, and lots of other challenges. She does physical therapy and occupational therapy weekly. She had 7 days of radiation and does weekly (sometimes daily - depending which week of chemotherapy it is) chemotherapy. We are working with oncologists, surgeons, wound professionals, nurses, child life, dietitians, nutritionists, and many others involved in her care. Sometimes we are outpatient, but sometimes we are inpatient in the hospital dependent on her chemistries and the chemotherapy she receives the week prior (or if she spikes a fever). Chemotherapy is scheduled into May and end date is dependent on our inpatient stays (and whether the regimen needs to be adjusted). We take it day by day and moment by moment… we are soaking up all the precious and special moments that we came close to losing. This is Eleanor’s warrior journey.

Journal entry by Amanda Linde

Good news! Scans look stable! No sign of anything concerning. The CT for her lungs still looks stable, no sign of anything on the other kidney, and MRI of spine still looks good. As for the numbers that we were questioning… apparently the blood clotted “on the way” to the lab skewing the numbers. A sigh of relief!!! We were worried that we would have to replace her single kidney, but thankfully our fear turned into great laughter in the clinic room. They said if her numbers were that skewed without a clot that we would be in trouble. WHEW! Thank you Lord!!

Continued scans, MRIs, X-rays, and ultrasounds every three months to keep it all in check. Today we thank God and celebrate! We stopped for cupcakes on the way home and will celebrate tonight (and this whole week for Thanksgiving).

1 Thessalonians 5:18 - In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
