Journal entry by Rebecca Mercado

Hi everyone I thought I would share my journey here. If you don’t know I’m in kidney/liver failure I’m on peritoneal dialysis, I was recently diagnosed with lupus as well, I also have gout along with heart disease, bipolar disorder and panic disorder! I know that’s a lot and yes it’s hard for me to deal with on a daily basis. If there’s one thing this journey has taught me it’s life isn’t fair but if you keep your faith in God you will prevail. I’ve been with my husband almost 21yrs and we have a 20yr son who is the light of our life’s! Both of them have given me the strength and courage to keep on fighting and to never give up. I have two transplant teams my kidney/pancreas team in Oklahoma City and my liver team in San Antonio, I have put transplant on hold for now because I’m dealing with the lupus diagnosis and I want to be on track and know what I can before I continue with transplant! My husband Elliot was tested a few yrs back to see if he maybe a match, it ended up he wasn’t but just for him to try ment the world to me. My son Isaiah came to me and wanted to be tested as well but my kidney team said he has to be 21 before he can be tested. Well that gives him the chance to start his military career and that I’m completely fine with. What I can say is this is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to go through in my entire life and 40yrs of living. Elliot and Isaiah have been there every step of the way, traveling back and forth, holding me while I’m in pain, crying with me, going to every dialysis appointment when I started on hemo dialysis, staying with me every time I’ve been in the hospital, never leaving my side when I almost died twice. I say I’m one lucky woman! I have a great support system and that I’m truly greatful for! I want to share my journey so that others know they are not alone and you can do it! I hope along the way I can help someone or someone help me!
