Mom’s Eulogy

We are gathered here today in memory of our sweet momma, Lisa Kay Farris, so that together as family and friends, we can celebrate and share our joy she gave us, and also acknowledge the sadness that her passing brings. In sharing these emotions together today, we can lessen the pain and remember more clearly the joy.

Mom was only 52 when she passed away at home surrounded by the people she loved most. It’s hard to say goodbye and all of us wish we had more time with her. We wish that the last year of her life had not been lost to her illness, that things could have been different for her, and for us. While we know that she is at peace and her pain is gone, we still have immense sadness. We are going to miss that smile and her kind spirit.

Despite our sadness, we have so much to celebrate, and she would want us to focus on the joyful things she reminds us of. Mom left a legacy of love and perseverance. The ways she touched each and every one of our lives will remain, and I ask that you keep those memories alive by sharing them with one another. Remember her gentle laugh and that infectious smile. Remember the deep conversations or silly moments you had with her. That is what she would ask of us.

The most important thing in mom’s life was her family. This family, and her role as a mother and grandmother (Gigi) was the reason she fought so hard. This is where she drew her strength and left a lasting impression. Her life had many obstacles, and she struggled for over a year with a devastating illness. Yet through it all, her love and selfless demeanor remained her focus and it was evident to us. Mom kept her priorities straight and had her mind set on beating the cancer, not for herself but for us!

Her selfless actions will forever be remembered and cherished. I thank God every day for blessing me with the most amazing mother, and I know she was so incredibly proud of me and my sister. We were her world and she was ours. She was our person and best friend. We will love you forever momma!
