Journal entry by Carla Gerke —
Happy half birthday to me! Today, I'm officially 6 months post transplant. Hard to believe that it was that long ago already. That month away from home just seems like a blip in time now.
This past week, I had my blood work done and my doctors were happy! I no longer have any restrictions. I can go in crowded places (I went to church again), restaurants, wherever! This is very exciting to me! I haven't minded being able to be home most of this time, but it sure is nice to be out in the world again and not worried about a sneeze or a cough. Up until now, I've seen people, but mostly in small groups at a time. It's so good to get a little more "normal" back in the routine.
So far, I have been feeling good. During these 6 months, there was a higher risk of infection and I can happily say that I only got sick once that I can remember and it was short lived. The main improvement I've noticed so far is my stamina. I'm able to do more in a day or more at one time than I could have before. The fatigue has definitely lessened. I am going to physical therapy twice a week with hopes of gaining more strength and who knows, maybe walk again! I'm still considered in "recovery" which could last a year or more they tell me.
God has been so good! No surprise there. He's always good! He's given me so much precious time with close family and friends and I've been so grateful to have so many people loving on me and praying for me. I look forward to what the next 6 months and beyond will look like!
