Howdy there, Caringbridge Family!
3 years!  It has been 3 years since Marcus's 2nd liver transplant!  How, exactly, did that happen?!
I am excited to tell you that we are all healthy and enjoying life.  Marcus is a whopping 5'9 (that's a good 5 inches taller than me!  My baby!) and his liver numbers are - literally - better than most of us walking around without any health issues.  His blood sugar has remained beautifully stable (no insulin needed in years) and his kidney function is still in the "okay" range.
Marcus and Tony traveled to Pennsylvania this week for Marcus's annual visit - oh, yeah - we moved to Nevada in 2022.  That was one of the conditions of this second transplant... that we get Marcus OUT of Pennsylvania as soon as it was safe to do so.  Not that any of us were complaining.  :)  We happily sold our business and our house and chased the sunlight and blue skies to our Happy Place.  Anyway, Marcus's visit to Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh was a success.  At 16 they are working to "transition" him to adult care by stressing that he have his head wrapped around his meds (reasons for taking them, doses, etc.) and helping him to be able to explain his medical history to others.  This 3 year landmark means that Marcus can have THREE MONTHS between lab draws, too.  (this is the longest timeframe between bloodwork... ever for us)
Provided all stays well, his next liver biopsy and visit to CHP will be in 2025.
I know I have said it... and I'll keep saying it, I appreciate everyone who followed our story.  Family, friends, strangers, random doctors who wanted to see what a transplant family goes through... all of you.  Thanks for riding the roller coaster with us.  <3
