James T.  “Jimmy” Lloyd, aka Mr.  Nice Guy

Jimmy left this world to be with his parents, Jack and Ginnie Lloyd, on Sept.  27, 2018.  He died peacefully, surrounded by his loving sisters and family, at Gilchrist Hospice Center in Towson, MD.  Born with developmental delays, Jimmy lived life to the fullest, was always happy and brightened the lives of everyone he met.  Jimmy’s motto was “Be happy – pass on sad!” and he embodied this in every moment, facing life’s challenges with strength, joy, and humor throughout his 68 years.

Growing up in LaVale, Jimmy loved going to his grandparents’ cottage and continued enjoying the outdoors through adulthood by going on camping trips with his parents and sisters throughout the U.S.  and Canada.  Jimmy’s favorite pastimes included bike riding, walking the family dogs, hearing knock-knock jokes, and making rhymes.  He loved old cars, and could often be found watching traffic and looking for aircraft.  Jimmy could always be counted on to pray for – and get – sunshine for special occasions. 

Jimmy attended Penn Avenue, Centre Street and Gephart Public Schools.  He then went to the Friends Aware Life Enrichment Center for 43 years, where in 1990 he was honored with the “Yes I Can!” award for the tenacity and courage he showed during his 2-year recovery from a devastating car accident.  In 2013, Jimmy and his mother, Ginnie, were named Allegany County’s “Most Fascinating People” by Allegany Magazine.

After a stay with his sister Mel in Ohio, Jimmy moved to Baltimore in 2014 to be closer to his mom, his sister Sue and brother-in-law Jack.  Jimmy made many friends and was lovingly supported by the caregivers in his new homes at Athelas Institute in Hampstead, and the Gallagher Center in Timonium.   “Mr. Nice Guy” taught us all that with a full heart and a cheerful outlook, you can face any challenge in life. 

Jimmy will be forever remembered and loved by his immediate family, Cathy and Darrell Turney, Sue and Jack Lattimore, Mel Magee, Lauren and Nick Lupica; his aunt Margaret “Doll” Cirelli; 12 nieces and nephews, 23 grandnieces and grandnephews and 9 great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews.

Arrangements are being handled by Scarpelli’s Funeral Home.  Calling hours will be at Scarpelli’s location in Cresaptown from 5 to 7pm Monday evening.  The funeral service is on Tuesday at 10:45am at St.  Ambrose Church, Cresaptown.   A Celebration of Life will be held in Baltimore at a later date.
