Journal entry by Cara Gallagher —
We just got the news that Ian is OK! I can feel myself slowly catching my breath as I write this. What a long.month.it.has.been!
We didn't get the call until 4:15 or so today- and Matt got the ring. The doc informed him that there were two more "abnormal" cells found. And that they had sent them out for additional testing and unfortuntely, she didn't have the results yet. They dove into the what is next conversation- which was all about shifting treamtment, moving to Car-T therapy (remember when Ian had his t-cells removed?) - and many meetings ahead to come up with a game plan with the CHOP oncology team. Gulp.
HOWEVER, while Matt was on the phone- our doctor received an email at 4:24 that confirmed that the cells were in fact NOT LEUKEMIA!!!
So, it's taking a bit to process this good news b/c it wasn't super clear at first.....but it is slowly sinking in. I can breathe for now! She also advised that we now keep his port in for a while- just to air on the side of caution due to this "scare" but that this news was excellent and we will resume 'normal' therapy (WHATEVER normal even is anymore:))
I can't thank you enough for all of the prayers, texts, checking in non-stop ,letting us know how much you were rooting for our guy. I think it has everythign to do with the power of prayer and all of the incredible good energy sent our way.
THank you, thank you, thank you. Let's finish this fight. FEbruary 2022- WE SEE YOU!
