Newest Update

Journal entry by Allyson Smith

We’ve had a very full day! Moses’ hemoglobin came up to 8.3 today and his pain is almost totally gone, so he got the big “break out of jail free” card. (Actually, this was most definitely not free - haha!) We drove home with the windows down celebrating life and fresh air!

The pictures are of Moses and his friends who came to visit last night (we snuck him out for about 30 min, and the next is of Moses saying peace out to all his lines and cables!

We had friends fly in from out of town today/tonight (something planned a while ago) so we came right back to a houseful of guests. Moses has mostly been in his bed and is still running a 101 temp, but he is so glad to be home and is ready to have a night of sleep without having labs drawn every 4 hours.

When the trauma team came to discharge us, he had a pretty sobering conversation with us. He told us Moses is very lucky to be alive. He said when he first saw Moses’ CT scan he wasn’t sure Moses would make it. He told us Moses is still VERY fragile. He said he thinks there’s a 40% chance he will end up with an abdominal abscess in the next 2-3 weeks due to all the blood/debris/dying liver in his abdomen. That would mean he would need a drain put in. He also said he has about a 30% chance of having internal bleeding again in the next few weeks. So we will need to be watching him closely for any changes. They said his first follow up will be in 10 days unless we end up in the ER before then with complications.

For now Moses is still quite tired and has lost a lost of weight - but he is very thankful to be alive! We are all praising God for Moses’ life. ❤️

Thank you to all of you who have prayed!

Update on Joel  -

“Surgery went well. Joel stable. Left side of skull taken off for 3 months to decompress his brain. Long recovery.  Please pray for total healing.

Neurosurgeon just came by. All of Joel’s numbers / values look good. If numbers / values remain good they’ll start waking him up on Monday. Medical coma until then. Appreciate ongoing prayers.”
