Journal entry by Beth Spaniol

Morgan's surgery yesterday here at Rush University was as best as we could expect! Both surgeons were able to remove the tumor, replace the humerus bone, and repair tendons & ligaments without damaging any nerves! Their efforts were amazing as it was originally supposed to be a 2 hour surgery but turned into 7 hours on the operating table.
Today Morgan is staying on the pediatric floor where she normally stays for chemo treatments. She will need to get a blood transfusion later today which is typical for all the blood loss. Pain meds are being monitored as she slowly wears off from the nerve block injection during surgery.
Next steps are follow up appointments over the next 2 weeks to review pathology reports, remove stitches, determine ongoing physical therapy, & discuss the next chemo treatment plan to prevent relapse (most likely 12 weekly treatments through October).
Hopefully when she leaves the hospital by the end of this week, she will just be wearing a sling for at least 6 weeks.
Thank you to every single one of you who helped us get to this day!!!
