Newest Update

Journal entry by Farah Metzger

I arrived back home Tuesday night. I'm still not feeling well & have some lab work to get done. I'm still frustrated at what went down. I only got to see dad twice at the behavioral unit, once when he was transferred to Coronado and then at the hospital the morning of my flight. (UPDATE: I just spoke with the hospital and my understanding is that, due to his delirium, he is allowed 1 visitor at a time.)

Dad continues to get aggressive, tries to get out of bed and requires a sitter 24 hours a day. He can no longer communicate coherently enough to say if he has any pain. Thus, they have him on antibiotics in case he has a urinary tract infection.

Unfortunately a skilled nursing facility (SNF) won't accept him if he requires a sitter and is aggressive. The only thing left is to sedate him more so that he has a chance of being accepted into a skilled nursing facility. Unfortunately, with more sedation there's a high chance he'll eat & drink less leading to even more complications.

I don't want him to experience any distress or discomfort. I'm afraid the only compassionate option now is to change his care to "comfort care" and pray for the best.
