Sign In to Show Your SupportDid you know that the average 30 year old has held 8.5 jobs? I’m proud to say I am well below that average as I turn 32 and transition into my 3rd adult job. After almost 7 years at Heartland (Versiti) I am moving on. I’m finally achieving a goal I’ve spoken into existence. I am McGann, an employee for the Illinois Department of Corrections. When I would talk about dreams I had, working with inmates was always top on my list. I’m not sure where the exact idea came from. I think it had to do with ease dropping on stories my aunt would speak of. And I think it had to do with me always thinking I was strong and invincible.
Leaving my job hasn’t been easy. I’ve spent more energy thinking this choice through. I’m confident because I know how many lives I’ve touched with my passion over the years. I’m thankful for my peers I’m leaving behind, because of them I know the blood will be available when I need it again. I’ll miss the familiarity of my job. The ease I feel when chaos breaks loose, giving me warm fuzzy feelings at the end of my day will be missed. The memories and all the amazing donors have shaped me and humbled me. I’m proud of my work. But I’m also relieved to be moving on. Anyone who knows me, knows the unhappiness I’ve been dealing with lately. From my life changing injury and mentally I’ve longed for much more.
Here’s to my new life. My new chance to learn and grow. My family who will get a more consistent me. And to 2021 being the best year yet.
