Journal entry by Molly Monarch

Hi All,

It’s been almost two weeks since surgery and recovery is going well! I guess I wish I was recovered by now, but through this whole process I’ve learned to be patient. My surgeon said things are healing nicely and I was finally able to get my drains out today. They were more of an annoyance than anything! The hardest part has been not being able to pick up Ava. I’m just so thankful for all the amazing people in my life that have been here to help me and my family.

The pathology report came back as a complete response. That means the chemo did it’s job and I can officially say I’m CANCER FREE! With having such an aggressive cancer and being stage 3 in the beginning, I honestly didn’t know if I would ever hear those words! Gosh it felt so good!

So, what’s next? In a couple weeks I will start radiation. Even though pathology came back great, they still treat me for my original diagnosis. Radiation will just ensure that if there were to be any single cancerous cells left, radiation will kill it. It just lowers my chance for recurrence. And at my age, I’ll do everything I can to lower my chances. About 6 months after radiation I will have a mastectomy on my right side (again, lowering chances of recurrence) along with reconstruction. I will be doing DIEP Flap reconstruction, they will take tissue and fat from my stomach to reconstruct my breasts. I’ll explain more when the time comes, but if your interested now google it, it’s kind of cool!

Thank you everyone for continuing to be on this journey with me! Seriously couldn’t do it without you all!
