Isaiah Bennett’s Story

Site created on November 15, 2022

We want to keep our friends and family updated on what our family is facing currently. Back in October Molly had her first ultrasound on the baby which indicated enlarged kidneys and was referred to a high-risk OB for a better look and repeat ultrasound. This ultrasound/ doctor confirmed large, inactive kidneys and noted severely low amniotic fluid. At this time we were told that due to the kidneys not functioning and the amniotic fluid level, it was unlikely our baby will live beyond delivery. The kidneys produce the vast majority of amniotic fluid after 18 weeks. The amniotic fluid is what helps mature other systems in the baby, including the lungs. So without the fluid, the baby’s lungs won’t be developed enough to support life. Because the umbilical chord and placenta are still functioning well, it is likely that the baby will live until delivery. There is no intervention that will change the outcome, so right now we are just monitoring with repeat ultrasounds and appointments.

Journal entry by Molly Jones

Our precious Isaiah Bennett was born at 3:02am on Saturday 1/28. He was 6lbs 7oz and 19in long.
He gave his mom a relatively easy and uncomplicated labor, and arrived within a half hour of us getting checked into our room.
In a true miracle, the Lord gave us the opportunity to spend about an hour and a half with him alive after he was born. This was one of our biggest prayers and hopes, and we knew that there was a possibility of him passing before or during labor. Our nurse couldn’t find his heartbeat with the monitor that is placed on my stomach, so our physician brought in an ultrasound machine to visualize his heart. After several minutes of watching we were told he didn’t have a heartbeat. We didn’t have much time to process because he was born about 10 minutes later, crying, squirming, and heart definitely beating. Both Sam and I got to hold Isaiah and hear his voice as he took a few more sweet breaths in our arms.  Our absolute miracle!
Annie came and met her little brother after she woke up Saturday morning. She asked repeatedly to hold him and loved pointing out his perfect eyes and nose and mouth and hair.
We miss him already so deeply, and are focusing on filling up the emptiness we feel of his absence with prayers and scripture and thankfulness to how gracious God has been to us.
Here are a few of the scriptures carrying us:

“He will feed his flock like a shepherd. He will carry the lambs in his arms, holding them close to his heart. He will gently lead the mother sheep with their young.”
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭40:11‬ ‭

“To all who mourn in Israel, he will give a crown of beauty for ashes, a joyous blessing instead of mourning, festive praise instead of despair. In their righteousness, they will be like great oaks that the Lord has planted for his own glory.”
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭61:3‬

“The scroll of Isaiah the prophet was handed to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where this was written: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free, and that the time of the Lord’s favor has come. ” He rolled up the scroll, handed it back to the attendant, and sat down. All eyes in the synagogue looked at him intently. Then he began to speak to them. “The Scripture you’ve just heard has been fulfilled this very day!””
‭‭Luke‬ ‭4:17-21‬ ‭

This passage in Luke where Jesus reads from Isaiah is especially important to us. Jesus was the fulfillment of each of these promises in Isaiah. Because of Jesus, we hold those promises as not just what we can look forward to in heaven, where we will see our Isaiah again, but also for today through the ministering of the Holy Spirit! We can definitely testify that we have been able to experience true joy even in this season of deep grief.

We are so grateful for the tender care and prayers from our family and friends during this time. If you’d like to take us a meal, you can sign up here. https://takethemameal.com/meals.php?t=DFIW4916 />
“Look! I am creating new heavens and a new earth, and no one will even think about the old ones anymore. Be glad; rejoice forever in my creation! And look! I will create Jerusalem as a place of happiness. Her people will be a source of joy. I will rejoice over Jerusalem and delight in my people. And the sound of weeping and crying will be heard in it no more. No longer will babies die when only a few days old. No longer will adults die before they have lived a full life. No longer will people be considered old at one hundred! Only the cursed will die that young!”
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭65:17-20‬ ‭
