Journal entry by Mo Hudson

Yesterday I had my 3rd surgery of the year and 3rd surgery for breast cancer, not including my port surgery in 2021.

Because of the trauma my right breast experienced during my last surgery in Nov, there was an added risk of infection and sure enough, a wound opened right before Thanksgiving. I received strong antibiotics to try and fight the infection but my wound never closed up again. Instead the opening got bigger.

My surgeon in Houston operated yesterday and cleaned out the dead skin, flushed out the affected area and applied a wound vac. There is currently a black sponge over the open wound which will allow the new skin to form underneath. The wound vac will allow this area to heal much faster. And I’ll have a cute little accessory to carry with me everywhere 😊

I’m flying back to Amarillo now and should be home this evening. Luckily this surgery was a lot less intense and I’m able to move more freely. Thankfully I stayed in the hospital overnight and received some strong IV antibiotics so I’m as good as new! And once again all the fantastic staff at Houston Methodist did an amazing job. I am so grateful to have such amazing care.

Next year I will have to go back and have a revision surgery so they can remove some of the scarring and hopefully even things out.

Thanks again for all the support,
Mo
