Melissa (Moey)’s Story

Site created on May 11, 2019

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place.  We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. During this time, Melissa would like to focus on her health and family.  She appreciates the personal phone calls and texts, but will not always be able to respond to the numerous contacts.

On Tuesday, April 30, 2019 Melissa went into the ER in Albert Lea as she had been struggling with a sore jaw.  While there they discovered her white blood cell count was 286,000 (normal levels are in the 17,000 range).  They immediately placed her in an ambulance told her "we think it is cancer" and sent her to Methodist Hospital  in Rochester.  She was met by her mother and sister who along with her husband, Mike,  supported her through the next series of appointments.  After the week full of tests Missy was released from the hospital on Saturday, May 4th with the preliminary results which confirmed cancer.  On Wednesday, May 8th the diagnosis was given - Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia - stage 4.  There is no cure, but the doctors are very optimistic about getting her cancer in remission for an extended period of time.  On Tuesday, May 21st she will start her first round of treatments which will continue for the next 18 months.

Thank you for visiting, keeping up with her progress and sharing your love with her on this site.  She will read and respond when she is able.
