Miya’s Story

Site created on July 15, 2020

On June 29th, 2020, Miya Joy (pronounced My-ya) and her twin brother, Charles, were born at 24.1 weeks gestation to Mama K. Being born so early meant that they faced immediate challenges after they were born. Both were in critical condition in the NICU and fighting hard. Heartbreakingly, Charles passed away on 7/3/2020. Miya Joy has amazed the doctors and nurses with her progress and is doing extremely well for her prematurity.

On July 11th, Wes and Jaimee, while camping on the coast with their family, got the call that they had been matched with little Miya. They packed up and drove the 4 hours home, arranged childcare for Luke and Halle, packed, and left early the next morning to begin their 10 hour drive to meet their baby. Since they have been there, they have been able to meet and talk with Mama K, which was a very sweet time. After many meetings and discussions with doctors, nurses, and social workers, they signed papers on 7/14/2020 and officially became Miya's parents. Miya continues to do well but as the doctors have told them, it is hour-to-hour at this early stage. She remains in critical, but stable condition. Wes and Jaimee are staying with friends about 45 minute away from the hospital and traveling to the hospital daily to see Miya. Due to Covid, only one of them is able to be in the room at a time.  Miya is likely to be in the NICU until early October.

Wes, Jaimee, Halle, and Luke are absolutely thrilled to welcome this sweet baby girl into their family. They are so looking forward to being home together, but have a long few months ahead of them before that can happen. They ask for prayers for strength, peace, hope, and endurance as they embark on this journey. They have such a wonderful support system  and are so thankful for all the love, prayers, and encouragement they have received. Hopefully this website will be a place that they can post updates and keep everyone updated in one place. Thank you so much for visiting!

Great is your faithfulness oh God!

Miya is doing great! We are loving being home and all together. We still have a lot of appointments over the next few weeks and months but for now we are enjoying being home. Please continue to pray for growth, that we will all stay healthy, for healing for Miyas lungs and digestive system! Thanks again for all of your support and prayers, we couldn’t have done this without each of you!

“For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them. How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! If I would count them, they are more than the sand. I awake, and I am still with you.”
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭139:13-18‬ ‭ESV‬‬
