Mitchell’s Story

Site created on January 1, 2019

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Mitchell has been diagnosed with an aggressive pediatric cancer called Rhabdomyosarcomatous or sarcoma for short.  On December 17th, 2018 Mitchell relocated to Seattle, WA to live close to the Seattle Children's Hospital for the 40-week chemo and radiation treatment plan. Mom and Dad are taking turns being in Seattle to care for him during this time. Originally, we thought the plan was only a 2-month plan but found out his cancer has spread which put him into a high-risk group, lengthening the treatment plan. We have graciously been offered lodging in a Ronald McDonald House, 5 minutes away from the hospital! Mitchell has had 2 surgeries, one in November and the other in December 2018 and had 5 tumors removed. His spirits are high today because of a wonderful visit with friends from Alaska.  We believe the first chemo treatment will begin Thursday, January 3rd. This is all so sudden and scary, there are no words that can describe our emotions. One of our top goals for Mitchell this year, (other than being cancer-free by his 19th birthday!), is to help him finish his senior year requirements and attend graduation in May 2019.   Thank you for visiting this site! I will keep this site updated as much as possible and start a list of things you can do to help... even simple things like sending cards of encouragement is wonderful. Sherri McDonald
