Journal

Throughout Mimi’s journey she always knew and felt the love and support of her family, friends and those who have found her journal entries inspirational and comforting. That same love and support was present as Mimi peacefully left this world, surrounded by her family and her faith, into the loving arms of her Lord.

In addition to updating everyone about her status through this journal, Mimi was determined to share her faith through the inspired words of these entries. She often said that if she was going out, she was “going out evangelizing.” Friends, acquaintances and people she did not know told Mimi her writings these past 15 months have helped them find or renew their faith. She was somewhat surprised, but took great joy in this because she did not necessarily believe she was either a great writer or a spiritual director for others. But her words did speak to so many people, and for that she, and we her family, felt so blessed and grateful.

It is so fitting that several themes of the readings for today spoke so well about Mimi, her faith and the plan God set for her.

The responsorial for today

“Lord, it is good to give thanks to you.”

And in the second reading

“We are always courageous, . . . we walk by faith, not by sight.

And in the Gospel the parable about the small mustard seed that when planted grows and becomes the largest of plants, providing comfort for the birds of the sky.

Mimi had a small plaque on the desk where she often wrote that said

“Be joyful always. Pray at all times. Be thankful in all circumstances.”
1 Thessalonians 5: 16 – 18

It is the way Mimi decided early on in her journey to approach every day. It was not always easy. Her entries shared the good times and the not-so-good times. Your comments were inspirational and encouraging and she fought on despite the pain and discomfort. But she would not want us to dwell on how she died, but rather how she lived, in faithful love for her Lord, with the support of family and friends, always thankful.

So be thankful for the life you have and the blessings you have received from the Lord, and thank him without reservation. Be courageous no matter what challenges you face because you are not alone. Whether your faith is the smallest of seeds or the largest of plants, it must be cared for, nurtured, and attended to so it may grow and live. And rejoice for Mimi, for she has crossed over to a new and glorious life, eternally in the presence of the Lord.

Thank you all for your prayers and support. May God continue to bless each and every one of you.
