Newest Update

Journal entry by Bryn Lambert

I apologize for not updating you all yesterday. Andrew and I did a split shift here at the hospital, so we both got a chance to spend some time at home.

The big news of the day is, WE'RE GOING HOME! Millie was cleared to go home by all departments today. Neurology adjusted her shunt, yesterday and today, after her MRIs. They want us to continue to monitor her, but expect it will take some time for her sun setting (eyes drifting downward) to stop. They want to drain the fluid off her brain slowly. We will be back in two weeks to do another MRI and check her incisions.

Infectious disease is sending us home with some antibiotics. She has two more days of that, and then, she should be good.

Moving forward, the doctors recommend we continue doing physical therapy with Millie to make sure she continues to meet her milestones. Other than that, long-term care for Millie will include continuous neurology appointments. It's likely Millie will always need a shunt. There are situations where a person's body learns how to absorb the excess spinal fluid and the shunt is no longer needed, but we're told those cases are very rare.

Thank you all for your prayers! Millie has an army of people who love and care for her. We appreciate everyone who reached out, said a prayer or kept us in their thoughts over the last eight days. It has been a week I hope no other parent ever has to endure, but we are grateful to have such an amazing support system.

I also can't say enough good things about the Children's Hospital here in Minneapolis. They took such good care of our little Millie girl.

As soon as this munchkin wakes up, we are heading home. We love you all!
