Mike’s Story

Site created on November 17, 2021

Welcome to Mike Winther's CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your prayers and words of hope and encouragement.

On September 29, 2021, IPS President, Mike Winther, and his wife, Mary, packed up their bags and left town for Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Mike had planned to seclude himself for the month of October so he could focus on writing a book. After visiting family on their way up, the start of their trip began very well. About half-way through, however, Mike and Mary both came down ill.

Out of caution, they both tested for COVID. The results came back positive. They secluded themselves and began self-treatment at their vacation rental. It hit both of them hard, but especially Mike. After 10 days, Mary began to feel better but Mike still did not.  At that point, Mary took Mike to a nearby hospital on October 25th.

There have been many up and downs while Mike has been in the hospital.  But overall, the journal has been more difficult than encouraging.  What's needed most at this time is renewed prayer. Please entreat the Lord and make supplication on Mike's behalf.  Men like him are desperately needed in our day and age.  He has served the Lord faithfully for years, and there is still much work to be done.

Thank you for visiting this site to check-in and see how the Winthers are doing. If you want to send Mike or Mary a card, please mail to:

Newest Update

Journal entry by Steven Butner

I just received word from Mike's wife, Mary, that a date and location has been set for Mike's memorial service.

The memorial service will take place on Thursday, December 16, 2021 at Big Valley Grace Community Church.  The service is scheduled to begin at 2:00pm.  The church is located at 4040 Tully Road, Modesto, California 95356.  Please plan to arrive early as we anticipate hundreds in attendance.

If you'd like to participate in honoring Mike's legacy in a hands-on way, prior to the memorial service, you can write a tribute letter to bring with you.  (If you hand write your letter instead of typing, please print legibly.)   Afterwards we'll compile all of the tribute letters and compose a book to give to Mary and the kids.  That way they can read about the lives Mike touched during his service here on earth.

Somewhere in your letter please recount the approximate year in which you first met Mike.  This will help us compose the book chronologically.

If you're unsure of what to write, you can recount how Mike entered your story and the difference he made in your life.  What was his impact on you?

This will be a significant blessing to the Winther family. I hope to include your letter in the project.  In the meantime, please continue to lift the Winthers up in prayer as the service draws near.
