Hello Family & Friends,
Jeanie here. Mike & I got moved over to Hope Lodge Omaha and are settling in. The accommodations here are amazing. There is a large community kitchen and living room areas
where families and friends can come to visit, which we are thankful for. The bedrooms are similar to a suite with no kitchen. We've decided the loveseat and recliner is made for someone 5" tall. But appreciate all they do for us. We have our own area in the frig and freezer and plenty of room to cook. There is a grill and patio area. Washer and dryers are here too
Mike had about ten days of mouth sores, right at the time we were leaving the hospital. They were just his body reacting to the chemo. So we pray this won't be an on going thing. I could cook but he just couldn't eat. We were waiting on another bone marrow test result and waiting for some of his counts to come back up before proceeding to the next treatment.
He is now on day 3 of his 2nd treatment, this time as an out-patient. They have changed things again. He is now doing 7 days straight if intravenous chemo that takes only about 40 minutes to administer but they don't send the order to mix it till we get back there in the room. So it's about a 3 hours stint in the hospital, then we go back to Hope lodge where he takes an oral chemo pill too. This treatment has made him more tired and nauseated. He still walks 4-5 miles a day(treadmill or outside with a mask). His temp goes up and down quite often but hasn't been bad enough to run him back in yet. He is to keep away from crowds so as not to catch anything with his low counts.
Mike has reached out to someone staying here that is in his last week. His journey started last September. He has been helpful to answer questions on how things went for him.  So we are still trying to grasp the length of time this may all take and what all has to happen.    Many have told us "this is not a sprint, it is a marathon". I think it is true. It is slowly getting easier to talk about but still seems so unreal. Please keep sending letters, cards, texts and phone calls and most of all prayers. They all keep him in touch with the outside world.  Thank you to all of you!
