Mike’s Story

Site created on December 9, 2020

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

So most of you know that my dad has diabetes and he’s a hard worker and doesn’t know how to rest even when he needs it. Well he’s had some wounds on his right foot in the past that he’s managed and now he’s vaccinated a much bigger wound and a much longer healing time. He wants me to keep everyone updated and I thought this might be the best option so I don’t have to talk to so many people with every update. Thanks for the support.

Journal entry by Andrea Schwai

Dad continues to do well. He’s working on healing, learning to love doing puzzles and helping my brother and my Uncle Tom at their shops as he tolerates. He’s walking more and getting around better. He’s even been able to drive a couple times. But definitely needs more practice and confidence. A month or so again his wound was looking a little different so they did a different type of treatment to help with possible infection and started antibiotics but other than that it’s healing well. He also had another vein study. Things are looking pretty good. He won’t need anything done for a few years they think. He also had his heart check up and things are looking great with his heart.

So the big thing to report is my dad was able to crush his first big goal (besides keeping the foot) which was to walk me down the isle. It was a longer walk because of the location of the wedding and he did amazing. He was so happy! He was even able to dance with me for the father daughter song. We quit a tad early but he did great and he was so happy. He said he never thought that he would be able to do that.

Thanks for keeping him in your thoughts/prayers/positive thoughts.
