Newest Update

Journal entry by Tawney Safran

Hi All,
We just got word that our father will be able to come home next week! It has been 7 weeks since his first hospital stay, starting at CMH then at USC Norris Center for Cancer. Every day we get newer and better results, although they are slow to come and understand, especially with the Covid hospitalization procedures, lack of Doctors and Nurses, and new protocols. We finally get to see him smile a bit, walk around his room, eat certain foods (he has no appetite) and sleep for more than 2 hours in a row. He's even back to watching Netflix series on his Ipad...
Our family continues to face time him and my brother and mom continue to do the behind the scenes investigation and work on his treatment plans. Although he is not ready for visits and facetime calls besides his immediate family he still loves to receive emails, texts (he actually reads them now:) and letters and pictures.  Whoever sent the "put put" hat for his mini RV really made his day.
As of now, his stomach is slowly healing (although swollen and sometimes painful) and his blood count levels are great. He will be released to our shared house on SilverStrand Beach for next week and then he is planning on renting an RV to keep at the house until his rebuilt is done. I am currently in the process of closing escrow on the beach home with a move out day of April 13th. (bad timing or good timing, still undecided..). Since he can't be around my kids during this time he will have to stay isolated for awhile, from his family and from friends.
The rebuilt is scheduled to be done in a few weeks or so and the moving parts have to align perfectly. I plan on living there for a bit (until I find a house to buy in this crazy market) and to help him drive to USC a few times a week for his appointments.
The current plan for dad is as follows: come home with frequent visits to USC, daily shots and observation and then prep for his bone marrow transplant procedure, which requires the right donor (anonymous or family). We don't know many more details than that for now.
For those looking to reach out we will let you know ways you can.
Thanks so much for all your love and support and we hope you are taking care of yourselves as well.
Love, Tawney and Family.
