Mike’s Story

Site created on October 20, 2018

Welcome to Mike’s CaringBridge website. Thank you for visiting.
On September 27, Mike took an MRI to explore a small problem with the peripheral vision in his right eye. We were shocked and dismayed to learn he had a mass in the occipital lobe of his brain, which is the area mostly responsible for sight.
After much excellent medical advice, research, and prayer, we decided we were supposed to be at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota for his surgery to remove his tumor.  His surgery is scheduled for Tuesday, October 23.
We are confident Mike is in the best hands, both in our Lord’s and the physicians’ here at Mayo. We believe in the power of prayer and in miracles.  Please keep us in your thoughts and lift him up in your prayers.

“St. Jude,  pray for us and all who Honor thee and invoke thy aid.”

Newest Update

Journal entry by Mike Mertz

Well, the time has finally come!

After a year, Mike took his last round of chemotherapy and immunotherapy on December 23. He had an MRI yesterday to make sure everything is still stable, and his doctor says everything looks great.  So he is finished with treatment and only has to go to Houston every two months to get his MRI scans.  As time passes and God continues to bless him with stable scans, he will be able to stretch those visits to every three months, then six, and so on.

I will update this site if anything changes, but I am praying you will not have to hear from me here again! Mike is a miracle, and we give God the glory for this gift that he has more time to spend with his loved ones.  He was given the blessing of having fantastic doctors, and we truly believe that the power of prayer is that special something that has brought him through this journey. We are so thankful for your prayers and concern.

With so much love and thanks,
Rhea
